Using the latest in biometric photo software, Kodak Express Botany’s passport photo service meets the specific requirements of almost every country and territory worldwide.
The software has presets for every country and the specific requirements for the official photo requirements for each country. These include size, ratio and background colour. Regular software updates ensure the photos we supply meet current requirements. Likeness stickers are supplied with photos when required, ask our staff if you need additional stickers.

Some tips to ensure your photo is not rejected by the relevant authorities.
- Wear dark clothing so there is a good contrast with the background.
- Consider tying your hair back. Eyebrows should be clearly visible, hair should not touch the eyebrows.
- Avoid wearing a striped shirt / top.
- Eyeglasses can be worn but the frames must not cover any part of the eyes. We suggest removing glasses or wear thin frame or frame less glasses,
- Headwear can only be worn for religious reasons.
- Both eyes should be open so eye colour can be clearly seen.
- Both ears should be visible.
- Mouth should be closed.
- Maintain a neutral expression.
- Passport images should not be more than 6 months old.
Infant Passport photos
Infant photos can be challenging. Some tips to make the process as easy as possible for the infant. We suggest that your baby is fed, awake and in a good mood. General photo requirements are similar to adult photos.
We suggest phoning ahead of time to ensure we can accommodate you and minimize disruption for the baby. Call our team on 09 2651038 to set up a time.
Country specific requirements
China
- No jewellery of any kind may be worn, remove all jewellery including ear rings, nose rings and necklaces.
- Wear dark coloured clothes, dark blue or black is best to ensure good contrast with the white background.
- Do not wear stiped clothing.
- Hair should be tied back so the ears are clearly visible.
United Kingdom
The United Kingdom use an online service whereby we upload the photo to a SCS (secure cloud service). A postcard sized card is printed with a unique code; use the code we provide when doing your online application. The postcard print has 4 x photo prints and the unique code. A digital version can also be emailed to you. The online code is only valid for one month from the date the picture was taken.
Canada
We are required to write on the back of the photos, photographer name, date and address.
Online Passport photo Checker
As part of our passport photo service for New Zealand and the United Kingdom e Passport photos, we will upload images and ensure they meet technical requirements before sending the photo to you.
Printed passport and visa photos
Printed passport photos differ from standard ink photo prints. Passport photos are printed on a thermal dye sublimation printer. If you require additional photos these can be requested at the time of taking your photo.
Depending on the size of the photo prints are supplied as one of the following options.
- 8 photos on a 6×4 inch sheet
- 6 photos on a 6×4 inch sheet
- 4 photos on a 6×4 inch sheet
- 2 photos on a 6×4 inch sheet
We will cut the photos to size and supply them in a clear ziplok bag with likeness stickers (if required).
Our passport photo service guarantee
In the unlikely event that the photo we’ve taken and processed is rejected for any reason, we will retake your photo free of charge. In the event that it fails a second time, we will refund you in full. Proof of rejection is required for a refund.
